Made in Dubuque Barcode T-Shirt
The Made in Dubuque Barcode T-Shirt turns a piece of everyday retail history into hometown pride, with a design created exclusively for Dubuque Clothing Co. It’s printed on a premium tee blank with soft, high-quality inks so the graphic stays sharp wash after wash.
The barcode itself traces back to Norman Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver, who filed their original patent on October 20, 1949 and were granted US Patent 2,612,994 in 1952 for a striped code inspired by Morse code. It took over two decades for the idea to catch on, until June 26, 1974, when a 10-pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit gum was scanned at a Marsh supermarket in Troy, Ohio - the first commercial use of the UPC. Every scan since has been proof of concept, and this shirt gives that quiet piece of invention a proud "Made in Dubuque" stamp.
