Fishing runs deep in Dubuque's history along the Mississippi. Commercial fishermen worked these waters for generations — families like the Duccinis fished a seven-mile stretch above and below town for three generations, running hoop nets, seines, and winter under-ice traps for catfish, buffalo, and carp. Back in 1911, a single twenty-mile section of river could bring in around $2,500 per mile for local fishermen.
