Lock & Dam 11, Dubuque, Iowa Throwback Shirt
The Lock & Dam 11, Dubuque, Iowa Throwback Shirt features a design found only at Dubuque Clothing Co., printed on a premium tee with soft, high-quality inks built to last.
Officially named General Zebulon Pike Lock and Dam No. 11 in honor of the explorer who charted the upper Mississippi, this Dubuque landmark was built as part of the Upper Mississippi River 9-Foot Navigation Project. Construction ran from 1934 to 1937, with the lock completed in August 1936 and the dam in May 1937, and the whole system went into operation on September 14, 1937. The movable dam spans 1,478 feet with 13 tainter gates and three roller gates, the main lock chamber measures 110 by 600 feet, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers still operates it today - a listing on the National Register of Historic Places since 2004.
