Dubuque's Irish roots run deep, and nowhere more visibly than "Little Dublin," a real neighborhood on the city's south end, squeezed between the bluffs and South Locust Street, where Irish immigrants built fourteen documented homes between 1870 and 1920. Before Highway 151 was reconstructed in 1986, historian Clayton Fraser spent roughly 500 hours photographing and documenting the neighborhood's architecture, and his research was submitted to the National Park Service for preservation in the Library of Congress - a lasting record of the immigrant community that helped shape the city.
