Maiers Barber Shop Throwback Crewneck Sweater
The Maiers Barber Shop Throwback Crewneck Sweater features artwork available only at Dubuque Clothing Co., screen printed on a premium fleece crewneck with soft, high-quality inks that keep their color wash after wash.
When Al Maiers started cutting hair in Dubuque, the city had somewhere between 90 and 100 working barbers; by the time he retired in 2016, only five or six remained. The Beatles-era shift toward longer hairstyles hit the trade hard, cutting his own customer base roughly in half, and younger generations largely stopped entering the profession as hair salons and chains took over. Shops like Maiers Barber Shop were among the last of a fading Dubuque tradition.
